Grading and Drainage & Irrigation
These two studios taught the principles of site water management. In my irrigation studio, we learned about all the components of irrigation systems and the science behind infiltration rates and evapotranspiration. We utilized Land F/X to plan, design and test an irrigation system for a municipal park site which we designed. Our grading and drainage studio taught the importance of directing water away from structures and hardscapes and had us apply the rigorous process of slop analysis to various sites. This studio challenged me with two major grading projects, one residential, and one commercial.
Municipal Park - Irrigation System Design
The capstone of my Irrigation Design Studio was a partnered project to design a public park and its irrigation system. My partner, Isabella Wismar, and I designed a public park which included a community garden, dog park, children’s playground, a pickle ball, bocce ball and ping pong sports court, a field for children's sports, a central meeting pavilion and a nature walk.
We utilized Land F/X to build our irrigation parts list, layout our heads and create our construction plan sets. We wanted to emphasize low-water plants and an efficient irrigation system and components to help conserve water here in the arid west.
Residential Grading
This project was focused on a residential site with significant elevation change which required a curving driveway and a front-entry walkway from the street.
Commercial Grading
This project is for a commercial apartment property with multiple buildings, an ADA compliant walking path and a baseball field.
